The School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Prelicensure Track) takes 36 months to complete from start to finish*. 

*The course sequencing guide is intended only as a guide for planning.  A student's actual course load may vary based on course credits accepted in transfer, successful academic progress in all didactic and clinical courses, and ATI examinations.  For more information, speak with an admissions representative.

How do I begin the application process?

  • To begin the application process, contact the Office of Admissions at 303.369.5151 or email an admissions representative at admissions@plattcolorado.edu to sign up for a free information session. 

How do I apply?

  • Please click here for information on the Five Steps of Admissions.  

How is admission decided?

  • After the applicant has completed all college and program admission requirements, the student’s application file will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee for The School of Nursing by the designated application cut-off date.  

When should I complete the admissions application?

  • The School of Nursing has four starts a year.  Potential applicants should apply as soon as possible before the quarter start date. Applying early gives potential applicants time to complete the School of Nursing’s Five Steps for Admissions. 

What are your start dates?

  • We have four starts a year: January, March, June and September.  The upcoming start is June 18, 2012 and the application cut-off date is May 21, 2012. 

Do I need any prerequisites to apply for the BSN program (Prelicensure Track)?

  • No.  Prerequisites, certifications, licensures or degrees are not needed to apply.  An official high school transcript from an accredited high school and/or official GED is required to start the application process. 

When are classes offered?

  • Classes typically meet two to three days a week from approximately 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For information about class schedules, contact the Office of Admissions at 303-369-5151. Clinicals are offered on days and times according to agency availability and can occur days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

How large are your class sizes?

  • We start an average of 15-20 students per cohort. 

Is attending a nursing program that is accredited important?  Is the BSN program at Platt College accredited?

  • Yes. The baccalaureate nursing program from the School of Nursing at Platt College is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

What is the TEAS test?

Do I need to submit a resume or letters of recommendation/references?

  • No, we do not require letters of recommendation or references for the admissions process.

Will there be an admissions interview?

  • Yes, applicants will undergo an interview process once they pass the entrance test.

If I change my mind about starting the nursing program, after being officially accepted, may I defer my admission to the next quarter?

  • No. You must reapply.

What if I have a bachelor's degree in another field and now I want to get my BSN?

  • Students with a bachelor’s degree apply for the Prelicensure BSN program which takes 36 months to complete. Only general education course grades of “C” or higher that are ten (10) years or less from the date of completion will be accepted for transfer credit from an institution approved by the US Department of Education. Only cognate course grades of “C” or higher that are ten (10) years or less from the date of completion will be accepted for transfer credit from an institution approved by the US Department of Education. Cognate courses at Platt College are defined as courses offered in the science discipline. The maximum transfer credit awarded cannot exceed 50% of the quarter credit hours of the total program requirement. Are my credits transferrable to other institutions?

  • It is always up to the receiving institution.  Click here to review Transferability of Credit to Other Institutions.

If I have received transfer credit, will it speed up my program?

  • No. While receiving transfer credit might make your class load lighter from quarter to quarter, the BSN program (Prelicensure Track) still takes 36 months to complete from start to finish. 

Can I obtain my BSN (Prelicensure Track) while attending Platt College part-time?

  • No. The BSN (Prelicensure Track) program is a full-time program that is sequentially spread out over 12 quarters. 

Does completion of the BSN program (Prelicensure Track) guarantee me licensure?

  • The State Board of Nursing may refuse to issue a license pursuant to sections 12-38-117 and 12-38-118 of the State of Colorado Nursing Practice Act. The Colorado State Board of Nursing may refuse to issue a license for specific reasons related to moral turpitude, intemperate use of alcohol or drugs, or conviction of a crime. Specific information may be obtained by contacting the Colorado State Board of Nursing. Completion of the BSN program does not guarantee eligibility to write the licensure examination. Completion of the program only guarantees the eligibility to apply to the State Board of Nursing to write the licensure examination.

Can I work in other states after graduation as a registered nurse?

  • Yes. Individual states control the process for licensed RN’s to work within their states. Please refer to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing for helpful information on licensure and licensure resources. You may also contact the state board of nursing for individual states to see their licensure application requirements.

If I am applying out-of-state, is the tuition costs for the BSN program (Prelicensure Track) higher?

  • No. Current tuition fees are available on our website and are the same regardless of the state you are living in when you apply.
