Purpose: To outline Platt College’s computer usage policies and to outline the roles and responsibilities associated with this process.

Policy:

Platt College’s Knowledge Resource Library enter enriches teaching, learning and the research environment to students, faculty and staff.  Learning Resource computer usage is for faculty, and currently enrolled students who wish to research on databases that access journals, electronic resources and the World Wide Web.

Encroaching on Others’ Access and Use of College Facilities

Users must not encroach on others’ access and use of the College’s network and computers.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Sending unsolicited bulk electronic mail or distributing unsolicited material though group communication channels
  • Sending chain-letters
  • Excessive printing
  • Using excessive network bandwidth
  • Modifying system facilities, operating systems, or disk partitions without proper authorization
  • Attempting to access private (password protected) college information without proper authorization
  • Damaging or vandalizing College computing facilities, equipment, software or computer files

Consequences of Misuse of Computing or Network Privileges

Cooperation Expected

Users, when requested, are expected to cooperate with the information specialist and/or library technician and/or other college designees in any investigation of system abuse. Failure to cooperate may be grounds for cancellation of access privileges, or other disciplinary actions.

Alumni

Alumni are welcome to use the computers for job searching if a computer is available. Computer needs are reserved for current students and the information specialist and/or library technician reserves the right to allow current students, faculty and potential students to have priority in computer usage.  Alumni are welcome to use the Knowledge Resource Library computers Monday through Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. 

Non-Affiliated Users Policy for the Knowledge Resource Library

The Knowledge Resource Library has affiliated users (faculty, students and administration) and non-affiliated users (alumni and board members).

The Knowledge Resource Library is a private library and reserves the right to restrict certain services to currently enrolled students, faculty and administration.

There is priority given to currently enrolled students for computer use.  Board members and alumni are welcome to use the computers to access our databases on site.
