HEERF III American Rescue Plan

ARP ACT 2021

Do I have to Apply for HEERF III Grant?

Yes, you must complete a certification form.

What kind of expenses can I use for this grant?

The grant may be used for any component of the student's cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to COVID-19, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or child care.

Will the heerf III grant impact my financial aid award?

No. Since HEERF II is not considered "financial aid", it will not impact your current eligibility.

Do I have to repay the HEERF III Grant?

No. These are grant funds and do not require repayment.

IF I RECEIVE THE GRANT AND HAVE AN OUTSTANDING BALANCE, WILL THE FUNDS BE APPLIED TO THOSE CHARGES?

You may elect to use the money to pay your account. If you do not elect the funds to go to your account, these funds will be sent directly to you regardless of your account standing and will not remain on your student account.

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT OR NEED THE HEERF III GRANT?

Most students enrolled in the summer quarter have cost of attendance expenses or may have emergency expenses during the pandemic. If you insist that you cannot use the funding, then you may answer accordingly under Step 3 of the Self-Certification Form.

WHAT IS THE AWARDING MODEL FOR FUNDS?

The awarding model is based on each student's Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as a result of their FAFSA. Platt College selected a tiered approach to provide more substantial award amounts to students who are most in need, while also providing emergency grants to students with higher EFCs. It is possible that the amounts in the tier will change depending on how many eligible students complete and sign the self-certification. The tier represents, at a minimum, how much each eligible student can expect.

HOW DO I PROVE NEED FOR THE GRANT

Complete the online attestation form identifying need by clicking: Additional Impact Grant Self-Certification for 2020-21. This award will only be granted after a student has submitted an online attestation and met the criteria as set forth by the College.

Can i receive HEERF III grant if i already received a heerf i or ii grant?

As long as you meet the eligibility requirements, the funds are available regardless of whether or not you have applied for or received a HEERF I or II grant.

On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) (Pub. L. 117-2). The ARP appropriated funds for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) and represents the third stream of funding appropriated for HEERF to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus.  HEERF III allows higher education institutions to use these appropriated funds to support students, and the institution itself, with expenses and financial needs related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Platt College is pleased to announce that it has been allotted a third round of funds, designated under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), to assist students with emergency grants. These one-time emergency grants to students may be used for “any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or child care.”

The main criterion for a HEERF III Grant is the demonstration of a genuine, eligible expense incurred and that the capacity for continued study may be in jeopardy due to financial hardship.

The US Department of Education has issued guidance on the distribution of the grants to students. In order to qualify for the grant Platt College students must meet the following criteria:

  • Attended Platt College (Aurora, CO) (past the drop/add week) in the June to September 2021 quarter.
  • Meet all Federal Financial Aid eligibility guidelines.
  • Students who are on an LOA for the entire June to September 2021 quarter are not eligible for HEERF III grant funds.

Platt College will award the HEERF grants on or before September 1, 2021. By accepting HEERF funds, you as the student are acknowledging you will use funds toward your cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or child care.
