Platt Graduate, Dr. Jama Goers, to Speak at 2023 CNA Annual Conference

Mar 29, 2023

Platt College wants to recognize and congratulate Jama Goers, PhD, RN, for her achievements and work to explore new clinical placement possibilities for undergraduate nursing students. Dr. Goers is the Director of Nursing Education, Research, and Innovation at Denver Health and Hospital Authority. She is a Platt College graduate earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010. A former EMT, she showed strong potential as a student. She earned the President’s Medal at her graduation for her outstanding passion and drive for the community she served.

When asked to reflect on Dr. Goers’ time at Platt College, President Dr. Julie Basler said, “She was always a very humble student. Her instructors and I saw her potential early on. She had this very natural way about her when it came to nursing. You could tell this was the field for her. She was always very passionate about patient care. Even as a student she had the ability to see the big picture, meaning she saw how changes would affect the community and patients she served, while also seeing how those same changes would affect nursing as a profession.”

Dr. Goers went on to become the first Platt College graduate to earn her PhD in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina. When it came time for her to defend her dissertation, she chose Platt College as the physical location where she defended.  It was an honor for all those present to be able to celebrate Dr. Goers’ success and perseverance as she paved the way for future Platt students.

Dr. Goers is scheduled to speak at the 2023 CNA Annual Conference on Saturday April 29, 2023. She will be discussing the benefits of longitudinal clinical placements for undergraduate nursing students. Dr. Goers proposes that longitudinal clinical placements may better prepare nursing students to meet workforce demands. Platt College is proud to recognize Dr. Jama Goers’ achievement and all future achievements that are sure to come her way.
