Safeguards and Evaluation Overview

Designing and Implementing Safeguards. A risk assessment and analysis applies to all methods of handling or disposing of nonpublic financial information, whether in electronic, paper or other form. The Coordinator of IT Services has implemented safeguards to control the risks identified through such assessments and to regularly test or otherwise monitor the effectiveness of such safeguards. Such testing and monitoring may be accomplished through existing monitoring and problem escalation procedures.

Risk Identification and Assessment

The College, as part of the program, identifies and assesses external and internal risks to the security, confidentiality, and integrity of nonpublic financial information that could result int he unauthorized disclosure, misuse, alteration, dectruction or compromise of such information.  In implementing the program, the Coordinator of IT has establised procedures for identifying and assessing such risks in each relevant area of the College's operations including:

The Program applies to (i) any record containing nonpublic personal information about a student or other third party who has a continuing relationship with the College, whether in paper, electronic or other form, which is handled or maintained by or on behalf of the College and (ii) any record containing nonpublic personal information pertaining to customers of other financial institutions that have provided such information to the College. For these purposes, the term nonpublic personal information shall mean:

Protection of Student Financial Aid Records and Information Under the GLBA

Because Platt College receives federal funds for students to attend, the College must comply with the provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA). Under the GLBA, financial services organizations, which include postsecondary educational institutions, are required to ensure the security and confidentiality of student financial aid records and information.

Student Classification

Platt College defines student classification two different ways: one way is in accordance with the Colorado Board of Nursing and the second way is in accordance with financial aid/Title IV funding for those who qualify.  The charts below illustrates the differences in the student classification system.

The SFA budgets are reviewed annually in July and reflect an academic year at Platt College which is equivalent to 9 months.  Because of the nature of the program offered at Platt College, the Financial Aid department uses one budget based on the cost of living in comparison in metro Denver.
